that flickr meme

Gacked from about half of my bloglines list, most recently Pam...

The rules:
1. Type your answer to each of the questions below into Flickr Search.
2. Using only the first page of results, and pick one image.
3. Copy and paste each of the URLs for the images into Big Huge Lab’s Mosaic Maker to create a mosaic of the picture answers.

My mosaic:

My answers:

1. What is your first name? Alexis

2. What is your favorite food? Macaroni and cheese, the ultimate comfort food

3. What high school did you go to? Henderson. (And I really have no idea why this picture comes up, but it's Scotland and I like it.)

4. What is your favorite color? periwinkle

5. Who is your celebrity crush? David Tennant. That's the current one, at least, though I could also have used John Barrowman, Paul Gross, Jon Stewart, and Jonathan Crombie (and if I had used the last I could have used one of my own photos, but I decided not to). And I loved that this picture is of a cake.

6. What is your favorite drink? Root beer. I don't really have a favorite alcoholic drink.

7. What is your dream vacation? Italy. I could also have used Scandinavia, Australia, New Zealand, Prague, Vienna, etc., of the places I've never been but really want to go.

8. What is your favorite dessert? Ice cream.

9. What did you want to be when you grow up? An artist.

10. What do you love most in life? My friends.

11. What is one word that describes you? Quirky.

12. What is your flickr name? calligraphy30, but nothing came up with that, so I just used calligraphy.

an end of spring rainbow

We had a brief thunderstorm last night, which I got caught in. But, afterwards, I happened to look out the window and discover a full arching rainbow across the sky, something I've never seen before.

This is a composite of three photographs, as I couldn't get the whole sky in just one.

And here's a detail shot, that shows the colors better:

ding dong the bells are going to chime

And another project finished! This one's a gift for a wedding I'm going to in a couple of weeks, for one of my oldest friends. I don't think he reads this blog but, just in case, Jason, if you're reading this, go away NOW.

Okay, gone?

Here it is:

weddingthrow

Pattern: Pinkie Blankie (pattern is available for free on Ravelry)
Yarn: Cascade 220 in Westpoint Blue Heather, 6.5 skeins, on size 15 needles
Notes: Used two strands of yarn held together throughout. Cast on an extra repeat across, knit a few extra pattern repeats lengthwise to make it a throw.

And closer up (this picture's the truest to the actual color):

Now just to figure out what to wear to the wedding...

La la la la lace

After what was starting to feel like forever, I finally finished my Lace Ribbon Scarf!

Photobucket

Pattern: Lace Ribbon Scarf, from knitty
Yarn: Briar Rose Fibers Sea Pearl, on size 3 needles
Notes: I used my first of my Rhinebeck yarns from last year.

Photobucket

I actually finished this early last week, but it needed blocking, and the weather was far too hot and humid for it to dry. So I finally was able to get around to it this weekend.

My artistic knitting photography really needs some work. :)

memeage

Catherine tagged me for this meme a while ago, and Omly tagged me for it again yesterday, so I should probably actually fill it out! :)

The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog. Let the person who tagged you know when you’ve posted your answer.

1) What was I doing 10 years ago?

I had just finished my sophomore year of college.

2) What are 5 things on my to-do list for today?

-work
-buy the poodle a birthday gift
-go to the drugstore and buy conditioner
-watch more Doctor Who
-work on an ongoing knitting project

3) Snacks I enjoy:

4) Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

-create a home for myself somewhere near an ocean

5) Places I have lived:

Pennsylvania and Massachusetts

6) Jobs I have had:

I'm not going to tag anyone; if you'd like to answer this yourself, please do!

muggle mania

I spent yesterday standing or sitting in Harvard Yard yesterday, waiting to see and hear J.K. Rowling at commencement. The security guards told me they had been working commencement for years and had never seen the kind of excitement and crowds that she drew. There were several kids in costume, including one boy in full Harry Potter dress (several Japanese tourists stopped to get their pictures taken with him), and people came from as far away as Pennsylvania and Texas just to hear her speak. There's an article about her speech here; she was both funny and serious, talking about the importance of both failure and imagination. And there was even a gay wizard joke.

And now, my not-so-great pictures from yesterday (thank goodness for zoom lenses).

Oh, Canada

You may have figured out by now that I have rather an affinity for most things Canadian. So, when I found there was going to be a Canadian tourism thing in Copley Square last week, I had to go.

There was an old streetcar:

And displays of knife skills by Cordon Bleu students:

And, of course, it wouldn't be a Canadian event without a Canadian Mountie:

He wasn't Paul Gross, alas, but he was nice, and he seemed to be having a ball hamming it up in all of the pictures he was taking with visitors.

And then my mother told me that one of my great aunt's four marriages was to a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. Maybe that's where I get it... :)
